Practice 9/29/14

Today, I kind of felt like I was singing through some sort of "film." It was as though my sound was kind of muffled, but I felt perfectly fine while I was singing. It was kind of weird. I'm going to attribute this weird mucous-y feeling to lack of hydration and all of the junk food I ate last night.

I focused my practice on soft jaw and having that "happy anticipation" sort of feeling while singing, and that released a lot of tension that I was having last week, so I'm happy. I'm finding that what I learn in lessons takes a couple days to sink in, so I just need to learn to be more patient. That being said, with that mucous-y feeling that I was getting, it made it a little difficult(?) to sing out the higher pitches in my pieces. I felt I was doing everything correctly though, and I tried not to force the sound out despite that weird muffled-ness. But of course, towards the end of my practice session, I got a little frustrated because of the difficulty I was having. I did some falling-from-above exercises on "who" and "shepherd" and "shopping," and that helped a little, but I never quite got to the result that I wanted.

When I started to push due to impatience, I decided to just leave the practice room so I wouldn't make that sort of thing a habit. Worked on some memorization with "Ouvre ton coeur." I think I almost have that one down.
