Practice 12/1/14

It's already December! Whoa...

I did a small "test run" of my voice at the beginning of my practice session and noticed that I was 1) singing flat, 2) not allowing my jaw to release, 3) I wasn't lightening/loosening as I went up in pitch. So those were the three things I chose to focus on.

I went through the vocalizes in my last lesson, and I made sure to remind myself that my throat is like a tube (that imagery just really helps me to release), and I thought about the "cool air" at the beginning of each phrase at the top of my mouth that we discussed earlier.

I had a tendency to cut off my nasal passage, so I worked a lot on making that accessible. I added more [o] to every vowel I sang, and that helped me find more release.

I experimented with "crazy face" and moving around my expression a lot because I discovered that I tend to get "stuck."

Definitely had a hard time figuring out resonance today; there were two particular "spots" in my resonance that either veered towards too brassy or too loft, and I worked on trying to find a happy medium without making it happen (if that makes sense), but I just kept alternating between the two. Perhaps if I come back later today, it'll turn out a little better.
