This lesson was basically just a series of take-aways, so I'm just going to list them.
I sang my German pieces.
- I need to focus on is not singing note to note; I need to think in phrases, using emphasized words as propellers for the momentum of the music.
- I need to remember to bounce on the note and let it spin instead of just sitting on it.
- Allow the abdominal wall to come in and release upon each inhale/exhale; I tend to get stuck about 1/3 of the way in, and then I don't release all the way.
- Using "panting breath" reset.
- Do some scales on [i]; work until you find the [i] on the lower pitches that flows effortlessly to upper pitches (i.e. you don't have to adjust your vowel as you go up)
- Read Naked Voice for more info.
- Work on a better "touch point" that's further back in the mouth. (Remember tongue high point; "feels almost as if the vowel/tongue is right over the larynx." Think opposite of the vowel you're singing (i.e. back vowels--think front. Front vowels--think back.)
- Really think about what your final objective is in the piece; I have a tendency to think about how to get there, and not why. What's your ultimate goal?
