Practice 3/25/16

I performed in VRH yesterday, and it definitely did not go as I would have liked. But I know it's because I did too much overthinking and I didn't trust my practice. I was told I was a bit more emotive this time, but that's interesting because I may or may not have been panicking on the inside. Also, I have a tendency to lean my head to the side and push my chin down on higher notes, apparently. That's good to know. Oh, well. I have next time to fix it. Also, we had the rehearsal for the St. Matthew Passion last night, and I was able to get into a place where I could sing the entire show and I felt just fine afterwards; I got out of my throat and nothing felt effortful.

This morning felt fine as well. I didn't drink or eat for several hours before sleeping, so I had no reflux.
  • Last night, when my voice was doing what I wanted, I noticed that my tongue was really fat and touched the back of my lower teeth, and were practically hugging my upper molars.
  • panting exercises; don't shove jaw down. Be light with the air at first. Jaw falls softly, tongue fattens softly.
    • No dramatic change from inhale to vocalization.
    • Suspension
    • Make sure that you stay ABOVE. Big nostrils.
    • Wobble exercises. Using earplugs at this point.
Didn't spend much time warming up, because I felt pretty released from the beginning. Plugging really helps ONLY if I'm paying attention really hard to what I'm feeling. Then I alternate between plugged and not plugged so I can get used to sensation and try to recreate it when I have sound going.
