Today, I picked up where I left off at yesterday's practice, and I focused most of my time on releasing my tongue even while I'm maintaining the jaw energy in the back. I started out with lip trills and moved on to closed "who" on 87654321, making sure to fall from above. Then I moved on to [∫e] on 54321. I reminded myself to take calm breaths and to just let the sound come out, not worrying too much about the pitches going down, and telling myself to be gentle (because I like to push the sound out sometimes). As I did each one, I also added more and more jaw release. I then added [a] instead.
At times I got a little "shallow," so I thought more "uh" (primal sound) before singing the vocalize.
Next, I did "Shi She Sha Sho Shu" on 87654321-3-5-8..., taking care to "float" back up to where I started. I noticed that I got some unwanted tongue tension in the [u] vowel.
Once thing that I tried was placing my thumb gently underneath my chin to remind myself (not force) that I don't need tongue tension as I'm singing, especially as I'm going up ascending pattern.
I'm realizing that I may be depressing the tongue because I'm trying to make space by pushing down, not opening up on top, so I did some "biting pen" to remind myself of internal space.
My voice is sort of swollen today, so when I did my vertical alignment exercises, I didn't go much higher than an A5. I did some [zi ze za] on 12345678987654321, as well as some [na ne] on 1324354653421.
As for music, I decided to start working on my German pieces, "Liebst du um Schönheit" and "Lachen ind Weinen." I focused most of my effort on just allowing sound to come out instead of pushing, gira la voce, and falling from above for every starting pitch.
Overall, this was a very effective practice session because I got rid of a lot of the tension that I procured yesterday.
