Practice 2/22/16

After yesterday's rehearsal, I read through Cindy's notes and tried to incorporate the things she mentioned in my practice.

  • Started out today with quite a bit of dryness and reflux.
  • Buoyancy
  • Think "haaaaaaaahhhh" in the throat (foggy breath space). "Earthy", even while the focus of sound is very high and forward.
  • Anchor high notes with more sense of grunt.
  • Soften the corners of the mouth
  • Try moan/sob posture if sound starts to feel shallow.
My vibrato is a little strong and wobbly today, so I tried working on the balance of high and low in my singing space, if that makes any sense.
I also tried to focus on what was going well and cueing myself to repeat that with all my other notes, rather than trying to fix the bad things. (This helped a ton....)
  • No machine-gunning the notes on descending patterns. Keep things buoyant!
  • BIG NOSTRILS!!! This helped a lot too.....

I always go back to descending patterns to rebalance the voice on problematic days. Not necessarily high range, but top-down until the entire voice feels like it is suspended from above rather than being drug up from below.
