Practice 10/27/14

As I predicted, my practice room did indeed have those horrible sound-absorbing boards installed. Sad day. I really liked the reverb I got in this room. Now it just sounds so dull.

Either way, that kind of forces me to focus more on sensation than on sound, so it could be a good thing. I did pretty much the same thing that I did last night since it was very effective; I took my time, focusing on breathing and trying out "small mouth" in my practice so I could get used to the mask resonance. I noticed that I really have a tendency to close off the front of my resonance area? if that makes sense. I was doing better as far as release in the throat and in my breathing, but I felt like my sound was kind of trapped behind my nose. I did some nasal consonant exercises and the "plugging nose" thing that we did in my lesson, and that seemed to help a lot.

In my practice room, I didn't really get to the place of release that I wanted, but when I went to choir, I felt really good, and when I sang in Vocal Rep, I felt really good there. So maybe it's just an acoustics things again.
