Practice 10/20/14

Today, I worked on my pronunciation for my French and German pieces (I'm pretty sure my German needs lots of work. It just doesn't sound quite right when I say it.)

I focused my practice on the uninterrupted flow of the breath. I did the vocalizes that we did in my most recent lesson. I did a lot of sighing, and I did a lot of my warmups while lying on the floor (admittedly it was because I was really tired, but hey, it still counts).

When I went through my pieces, I tried to remind myself that as my breath leaves my body, I can use energy to balance things out (that makes no sense, but yeah). I was feeling low on energy, so I sang a bit while doing some jumping jacks.

After some not-very-released singing, I discovered that I was tightening somewhere in the back of my tongue because I felt like I was narrowing the space in order to reach higher notes, so I slowed things down, took my time on my breathing, and had happy thoughts while singing the whole thing on my favorite vowel, [e]. I also did some "shake my finger at," and that worked really well.

Still low on energy, though. I'll probably come back later after I take a nap and get some food in my system.
