I most definitely got sick with something. It wasn't strep, but for the first couple of days I had an insanely sore throat. After about three days, I got very strong cold symptoms with a runny, chest congestion that caused a cough, and headaches and fever. My voice suffered the most during this time due to swelling, coughing, and a thick layer of mucus that persistently stayed on my folds. I have a consistently nasal speech because of my congestion, and even as I speak now or sing, I feel lots of vibration in my nose.
I followed along with my 2/26 and 2/27/16 lessons, and they helped, but by the end of ~40 min. of trying to find good release, I had to stop because the swelling in my voice got to be bothersome. Besides that, I felt pretty good in terms of my technique, especially considering how nasty I've been feeling.
I went home and took some pain killer/acetaminophen because I was desperate for some ibuprofen, and that was the only kind I had. It ended up helping, since my congestion went down.
I went to Dallas' house later this evening to sing for the Russian final with KP and the likes. We had lots of fun, and I was the first to sing. The room that we sang in was very resonant, and I ended up getting a lot of acoustic feedback. Even though I felt funny in my practice room earlier, I was able to sing through both of my pieces pretty easily. I was even able to sing my Ab5 with relative ease! The great thing about singing in a space that gives a lot back to you is that I tend to focus more on sensation and release. As a result, my singing feels much more released. I actually don't know how I sounded, but I do know that I felt released, so I don't really care.
